The Institute for Jewish Studies Barcelona now offers individual online lessons in Modern Standard Arabic and spoken Levantine Arabic, for all levels.

Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) — the formal written and broadcast variety used across the Arab world

Spoken/colloquial Levantine Arabic — the everyday language as it is actually used in conversation in Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, and Jordan.
Lessons are available online, making them accessible wherever you are.
Learning Approaches
Two distinct approaches are available:
The Growing Participator Approach (GPA) — An immersive, communication-centred methodology that builds real fluency from day one, adapted for online learning. Rather than memorising rules in isolation, learners develop understanding of the language through meaningful interaction.
Conventional / Textbook-Based Learning — A structured, grammar-led approach with a clear syllabus — ideal if you prefer explicit progression or are working towards a specific goal.
About the Teacher
Our teacher, Hiyam, holds a Master's degree in the Humanities and teaches both Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) and spoken Arabic.
She is trained in the Growing Participator Approach but is equally happy to work from a conventional textbook — lessons are tailored to your goals and learning style.
