 Art Projects

Within the activities of the Institute for Jewish Studies Barcelona, artistic projects form an important part of our engagement with Jewish history, memory, and place. Through visual art, comics, writing, and participatory creative practices, artists and participants explore stories, spaces, and experiences connected to the Jewish past of the city and the wider region. Some works take the form of artistic interventions in public space - while others develop as creative projects that combine research, imagination, and narrative. These initiatives seek to bring overlooked histories back into public awareness - encourage reflection on complex heritage - and create a meeting point between art, historical inquiry, and community engagement.

The Jewish Soul of Montjuïc - Questions and Answers about the Old Jewish Cemetery

This informational comic by Dafne Ortiz Salazar was created as part of an artistic intervention at the medieval Jewish cemetery of Montjuïc as part of the Viu Montjuïc program of Barcelona City Council (2025). The project presents the history of the site and helps return this cemetery, long forgotten, to public awareness.
