The study of the Talmud in Spanish remains a little-explored field: most available programs are either overly simplified or, on the contrary, excessively academic and not very accessible.

Havruta Sefarad was created to bridge that gap, offering a space for deep, collaborative learning in our own language.

​

This course revives the ancient method of Havruta (paired study), adapted to the digital environment—a format that encourages dialogue, critical thinking, and the joint construction of meaning.

 

The texts will be studied in Spanish, with translations carried out by the teachers directly from the original Hebrew, carefully preserving the nuances and richness of meaning.

Our proposal unites tradition and technology: weekly online meetings, study in pairs, digital materials, and a virtual community connecting students throughout Latin America and Spain.

It is an inclusive space, open to adults of any cultural background or denomination, who wish to approach the Talmud with rigor, openness, and commitment.

Facilitators

Lucca Bacal holds a degree in Letters from the Universidade de São Paulo, with a specialization in Portuguese and Eastern languages. He completed a degree in Jewish Studies at the Seminario Rabínico Latinoamericano Marshall T. Meyer (Buenos Aires) and served as a worship assistant at the Congregação Israelita Paulista. Since 2024 he has resided in Jerusalem and studies at Pardes (Beit Midrash and Experiential Education), now beginning his second year. Lucca brings practical experience in Ibero-American communities and a precise approach to direct translation from Hebrew: his work ensures that the Spanish and Portuguese versions retain the textual nuances necessary for academic and pedagogical discussion.

Noelia Bernardez holds a degree in History from the University of Granada and a Master’s in Jewish Studies from the University of Heidelberg, as well as a Master’s in Religious Behaviour from Lund University. She is currently pursuing an MA in Jewish Education at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and was a student in the Pardes program in Jerusalem (Beit Midrash and Experiential Education). Her research focuses on Jewish identity in Late Antiquity: the boundaries of Jewishness during the Second Temple period and the transition to the rabbinic era. In teaching, Noelia provides historical context, tools to contextualize texts, and resources to make havruta discussion relevant.
